OUR VISION

To enable all children to develop their capabilities as successful learners and confident individuals in a positive, caring environment lead by practitioners supporting the children to prepare for their futures.

INTENT

We intend to:

Work in partnership with parents and carers to encourage independent, happy learners who thrive at nursery by reaching their full potential from each of their individual starting points.

Understand and follow children’s interests and provide opportunities throughout our EYFS curriculum to support learning, consolidate and deepen knowledge and ensure children meet their next steps.

Create an indoor and outdoor environment which supports the children’s learning.

IMPLEMENTATION

We have a curriculum that is child-centred and that is based upon the interests and experiences which engage the children. We encourage active learning to ensure the children are motivated and interested. We take the time to get to know children’s interests and their likes to support and extend their learning. All areas of the EYFS curriculum are followed and planned for to ensure there is a broad, balanced, and progressive learning environment and curriculum.

We ensure the planning for the curriculum is flexible so that a child’s unique interests are supported. Practitioners make regular observations of the children to ensure their next steps are met. These are collected in each child’s individual babys days profile.
The children learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside. The children have open access to the outdoors which is used all year round and in most weather conditions.

We work in partnership with parents through regular daily feedback using the babys days profile for each child and verbal conversations during drop off and pick up. We have termly parents’ evenings for the parents to meet with their child’s key person to discuss the development and learning of their child. We have open days and messy mornings where families are invited to the nursery to participate in activities offered to the children.

We work with the local schools and other early years settings to support children with transitions or exchanging information where a child attend both provisions. During the summer months we work with the pre-school children to prepare them for school. We have visits to the local primary schools, have school dinners during lunchtime, change into our clothes to participate in a PE session.

IMPACT

The impact of our curriculum is measured by assessment procedures which allow us to measure outcomes against the national statics for age and stages of development.

We measure the percentage of children achieving age related expectations throughout the year, practitioners put supportive measures into place when and if needed.

Practitioners complete a summative assessment each term which compares children’s attainment to age related expectations using the EYFS.

Practitioners ensure that the rates of progress for each individual child are good, including vulnerable groups such as those with SEND, disadvantaged or summer born children.
